it might have a hairline crack in it, mine did on my 745. theyre sometimes caused by not using a screenwash with antifreeze in it, and in the winter the water freezes and cracks the bottle!

Well it's obviously losing water rather than a false reading as you say you have to refill it.

Need to pressurise the system and see where the leak is.

with a pump and obtaining a good seal. Only slight pressure is needed - too much and you could pop some of the washer pipe joints.

Could also put down some paper under the car and get a general idea where it's leaking from - could be gethering on the engine tray which is why your not seeing a puddle - perhaps?
5 litres over 2 days should be obviously to see you would have thought?

Edit previous issues I've had with water bottles is a leak where the pump motor fits in the washer bottle.

you may find that it is the same problem as mine.

The neck of the filler has a filter in it. It was BADLY blocked, which wasn't allowing the water to flow into the neck.

Check it out, it's about a couple of inches down the pipe, and can be removed CAREFULLY with a pair of needle nose pliers.

I had a similar problem on a Saab 9000. The water outlet from the washer bottle was passed directly to the windscreen washers but the same feed is split off via a Pressure sensitive 'T' piece to the headlamp washers. It was a regular thing that the pressure valve, every 2 years, would fail and the washer fluid would just run away via the headlamp washer jets. The jets are below the base of the washer bottle. They used to be couple of pounds from to replace via the Saab dealer. It may be something similar with the S60 Headlamp Wash Wipe set up pre water spout washing!

Hi,

If the bottle and filler arrangement are similar to the 70/900's the you can pull out the filler pipe from the bottle.
The rubber retainer ring on the bottle lip can then be removed and the filter lifted out.
Wash carefully and rinse many times (inside out) and replace.

Des. . .
