RE: A Turkey?
Hi Alastair, the serial number for Classic V70 lockable wheel bolts for alloys is 9166 952. There are two types one long for alloys and one shorter to fit steel wheels (9124 654).
Halfords can supply McGard locking wheel nuts which are the same pattern as the oem ones, however they are slightly shorter than the originals. They fit and are very good quality. (I have read that it is McGard that supply Volvo on this forum, however cannot confirm this). The serial number for the correct V70 McGard bolts for alloy wheels is 27186 and they should cost £29.99. The original locking wheel nuts need to be treated with care as they will wear rapidly if a compressed air tool is used to take them off and put them on. I insist that the wheel nuts are taken off and put on again by hand when having new tyres put on to save damaging the nuts and over tightening them (as you know they should be tightened to 110 NMH so that the discs don't warp).

Wheel bolts.
All 5 stud 850 and S/V/C70 wheels used Volvo's unusual M12x 1.75 bolts, as I understand did the older S and V90's and older models.
With the introduction of the S60 and new V70 and the S80, Volvo have gone to the more widely used M14x1.5... also on the XC90. I do keep in stock longer M12x1.75 bolts for use with wheel spacers and awkward aftermarket wheels which may need them. Regards, Don.Norchi. www.kalmar-union.com |

RE: Wheel bolts.
Very interesting. Iain, Don, thank you for your responses.
I called Pillings Volvo, they don't recognise the part number - 8637237 - although the bag is quite clearly Volvo-branded. I will call in on Pillings next time I am passing to find out exactly what I have bought... before I start asking for my money back (some hope). Alastair |
