Gatso's on the A68
Driving back from Aberdeen on Saturday, I was careless enough to be flashed by a Gatso on the A68. I had just been overtaken by a loon in an AX and was so busy thinking "oh, he is really travelling, he must be doing at least xx mph", that I didn't see the camera and my speed had crept up. I was travelling towards it and it flashed me twice as I was on the lines.
I noticed that all the cameras (and there are about 30 of them) seem to have flash units in them (there were no empty boxes as I have seen elsewhere). I also saw that there were very few with actual cameras in the top window, but missed whether there was one in the box that flashed me. So I have two questions: Can a Gatso "do you" as you are travelling towards it (the yellow warning reflective markings are only on the back)? Do the Gatsos on the A68 all flash, and how many cameras are there? There was a camera in the box immediately after "my gatso", is it likely there would be two in a row? Yours worried. Philip.

If you are flashed from the front by a gatso (I presume that it was on the other side of the road) I wouldnt worry about it! nothing will come of it!
If it was a Trevulo (spelling?) that may be a different story (Im not sure if they actually flash though!!!) |

On the subject of cameras (sorry don't mean to hijack this post)
I was driving through Nottingham on Saturday and there where bloomin hundreds of the damn things. 1 camera suspended halfway over each carriageway and then 100-200 yards down the road another camera over the carriageway, are these the new optical cameras that read number plates as they go by and then it times you and if your plate comes up again to quickly gives you a ticket?? they didn't look like cctv as they looked too systematic and suspicious, later that day it looked like the M42 was going to become a donor for these things. |

The M42 (NEC way) looks like it is getting some 'specs' cameras by the look of the posts they will be attached to.
Quite a few of them too, around where the current roadworks are. Keep 'em peeled folks! Later, Dan. |

Yep those are the new 'specs' facist cameras. Nottinham has loads, the A46 from Bingham to Newark is getting them as is the A52 from Bingham to Grantham. The M6 has them in Staffs (J17-J20) and also at the Thelwall Viaduct roadworks.
It looks like Nottinghamshire is going all out for these damn things, hopefully the rest of the country will be a bit slower on the uptake. |

The ones at thelwall viacduct are only traffic monitoring cameras but they have put big orange squares behind them to 'frighten' you into thinking they are speed cameras (ive been told under good authority that they arent speed cameras!!!)

The devious, underhand, sneaky so & so's!!!
That would be like hiding a camera behind bushes on a long straight piece of road.......... |

RE: Gatso's on the A68
Yes, it was a Gatso, not a Truvelo, and yes I was heading towards it and it was on the other side of the road, so fingers crossed.
Cheers

RE: Gatso's on the A68
Nothing will happen then!
They cant take your picture from the front (something to do with flash photography) And by rights every gatso should have a sign saying that the pictures that are being taken are for use in criminal prosecution or words to that effect! I own a company that installs CCTV etc and if we dont fit a sign stating the above any footage that is taken will not stand up as evidence in court! So why should a photo from a Gatso be any different? |

RE: Gatso's on the A68
You have nothing to fear if you keep to the speed limits in force for the stretch of road you are using. If you want to ignore the limits then you must expect to get clobbered sometime. Incidentally the local Gatso can take photos and is triggered whichever way you are travelling, with speed sense lines both sides of the road. All the best, Peter |
