New C70
Anyone on here lucky enough to own the new (2006) C70?
Dreaming about getting the D5 version within a couple of years but not sure how realistic this will be, not many 2nd handers appearing on the market just yet and those that are don't seem to cost any less than new ones. Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts/reviews/issues, I would be interested to hear. Cheers, and |

I am thinking about it. Was hoping to pick up an ex-demo but none to my spec and as you say used prices no cheaper than new at the moment.
Will keep you informed, car will replace an Audi S4 Cab so I need to test drive. We do not need the S4 performance but I do not want anything to stodgy either. New BMW interesting but it is a BMW. Another Audi would make it my fourth in a row and they have barely changed it so the Volvo is ahead at the moment and I think it is different enough outside and in to live alongside the S60 which you could not always say about having 2 Audis or BMWs. |

Am also waiting for the D5 prices to fall too, but like you say they are not moving by much at the moment unfortunately possibly when the next reg comes out prices should start moving

Residuals
Read in a fleet magazine that the residuals for an 06 C70 are 47, this compared to an 06 S60 at 26!
Would I be correct in thinking that this figure is the estimated percentage of original price that the car will be worth after 3 years? |

Yes
S60 is notoriously bad, somewhat unfairly, but largely due to the huge discounts now possible new. Mine dropped nearly 50% (from list) in year one and I expect it to half again over the next two years so 26 is about right! C70 limited supply always pretty good, however if Volvo push their luck and we get into oversupply then it won't be as good. 47 still a but low for a convertible, and Audi or BMW would be mid 50s. |

You have a point and it worries me that the C70 is just an expensive Focus but that it like saying the VW Eos is a cheap Audi A4 Cab whereas they live happily side by side in the VAG line up and A4 residuals are still very strong. I do think it accounts a bit for the slower than expected C70 sales though.
Ignoring the fact I do not like the styling as much, I cannot even consider the Focus though because of the engine line-up: Choice of engines will include 100 PS 1.6 litre Duratec and 145 PS 2.0 litre Duratec petrol, plus the latest 136 PS 2.0 litre Duratorq TDCi diesel Nothing there for me. Time will tell if the Focus ST (C70 T5) engine makes it into the Focus CC but for now maybe Ford and Volvo have an agreement on it? Oh and then there is the kit levels and the Ford don't get no Dynaudio hi-fi :-) With a bit of haggling I think the Volvo can just about justify the extra over the Ford |

[QUOTE=D5 _Monkey;182761]Anyone on here lucky enough to own the new (2006) C70?
Noticed your note from a few weeks ago. I've been driving a new C70 D5 SE Lux for a week or so now. Like others, I was originally a bit concerned about the Ford tag but, these days, with so many "cross fertilisations" I think you have to just look at the car on face value. My previous car was an XC90 and before that a 911..strange lineage I agree but all for family reasons. The first impression I had when driving the C70 demo, was that I was back in the Porsche. The low-speed handling, the size and view out the front and, amazingly, the acceleration...in a diesel..! Now, some of that nostalgia may have come from the fact I have beeen driving an XC90 for a while... I wouldn't want to get carried away on the Porsche theme though. The handling changes at about 30mph..as does the power curve, noise etc. Still, I think the the C70 represents good value as an everyday car with that extra bizzazz from having a convertible. The diesel is quiet, much more so that in the XC90. Even with the top down, it's not really noticable above 20 mph. Of course, when you turn on the Noise Suppression System (otherwise known as Dynaudio) everything comes nicely together. In my humble opinion, the seats are the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a car, soft and firm in all the right places. Some may find the ride a little hard but I don't think it is unpleasantly so. The top is what it's all about and for winter driving, you really forget this is a convertible. No excess noise, no wind rush or draughts..just a solid roof. The converting bit is a bit fussy though. Must be completely stopped, foot on brake (to start with), finger on the button all the way through the process which take about 30 seconds. 30 seconds isn't long..unless, that is, you have made a " shall I, shan't I?" decision at a red light. Getting caught on a green with the roof half up (or down) is not going to endear you to following drivers who, by this time, probably think you're showing off anyway. Years of convertible experience have taught me to carry out the morphing process quietly and privately..... On balance, a lovely car that I look forward to driving every day...roll on summer |

C70 T5 SE Lux Auto + all options!
Hi I was lucky enough to buy the above last year from a Honda garage!!!
I looked at a new D5 also but the illusion was somewhat shattered with the roof down and the diesel rattle bouncing back at you from the buildings you happen to be passing. No regrets so far even though this is my first non diesel for 10+ years. No regrets apart from the fact that Volvo seem to use their customers to finish of the development of the product....so it's been back four times to get things fixed (and the dealer hasn't finished yet). |
