Default Sending unit direction

I’m currently trying to replace the fuel pump on my 2005 AWD S60 and after installing the pump, the connection from the fuel pump to the unit seems to be facing the wrong direction so the sending unit wants to face with the arrow pointing down instead of up. Is this a big deal or should I just put it in that way?

Where on the sending unit is this arrow? Arrows show flow direction.

Haynes manual said the sender had to be passed through the hole with the float arm in the lowest position. That was the only mention of direction.
Does it swing freely?

How many miles did your '05 pump last?
