they designed the car then thought about the way it's put together!

The S60 is the same! It's just under 12m turning circle.

Simply I think the engine bay is very cramped and they have pinched every inch, so the wheel's don't have much tu turn in. Think it was also designed with 16's in mind, but most have 17's and this is where the problems start.

Try and avoid full lock though, as it doesn't do the PAS pump much good, trying to turn beyond the stops it will lead to premature wear.

You must also plan your parking well in advance. And entrances to carparks are not the same as the exit - think top gear with those super car's in France! I had to mess about once exiting a carpark and had to go back and forth about four times before I could get round the conveniently place concrete bollard at the exit! Makes you look like a right prat!

Agreed - my T5 (with 17s) has a turning circle akin to a small tank!

As Vipes says, forward planning is the key!

Oh Dear

Go test drive a 530d estate and then get really upset . You will be fine after a while you just have to predict where you want to park it . Some recommend JEDi training .

I agree my v70 is like an oil tanker in thick ice for turning... it all happens slowly but as was said in replies above, you really do have to plan ahead. I do think it has pretty good "feel" though, so once rolling along its actually quite nice and responsive.

But then my first volvo a 940SETurbo had the opposite problem, amazing turning lock (almost London taxi style) and with the addition of no rear grip a small dab on the throttle and it would spin very nicely... and as for driving it was more of the same no response until it finally decided to turn and then the back of the car wanted to overtake!

Maybe I should have driven it slower but that Turbo was really good fun!

Yes Ford now runs Volvo.

Ford will probably fix it, this was here long before FORD!

Funny thing is, quite often you find these cars fail the MOT! as the wheels sometimes touch the inner wheel arch at full lock.

So you end up having to move the stops and thus make the turning circle even worse!

Aye, I find the same. Used to have a 940SE 2.0T Estate, now V70 D5SE. Chalk 'n cheese! When I went for a test drive in the V70 I had to go round one of those nasty mini-roundabouts, the small painted humps in the road, in the middle of a housing estate. Embarrassingly, I ended up running up the kerb, even on full lock. I was terrified of kurbing the wheels and I hadn't agreed to buy the thing at the time.
Even the BMW 320d "estate" I had to drive between the Volvos had a better tc than the V70.
Just have to plan ahead but it's still a bit embarrassing getting in and out of tight spots when there's a crowd around.

Don't forget the sticky at the top of this topic about wheels touching the arches. I've printed off the pdf file mentioned in bigtree's post and put in the service book just in case I need to refer to it future (and the first MOT is due next month).

The wheels rubbing on full lock should not be an MOT failure on the Volvos - see http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...t=35058&page=2

It's not a lot better on 16" rims!

Default full lock

these cars can,t have a better turning circle due to the fact that the c,v joint on the front drive shaft can only angle so much shame though
