2001 T4 front strut mounts.
Just noticed in engine bay that one is off centred quite alot and noticed a scrapping /rattling noise when i drop off a speed bump??????other strut mount is dead centre,anybody tell me what it might be?

When you say one is off centred, do you mean a mount? I so its probably gone and needs replacing, or at a push someothing else has gone and made that one twist. You dont indicate which one, but check the top mount on the left of the engine, then the two underneath on the undertray fromt and back, lastly the one on top of the gearbox. If one has gone it may be putting unnecessary pressure on the one you think has gone.

Yes the shock top where it pokes through the mount,now been told its the metal ring under the rubber cup is worn oval shape,nobody sells on its own its a complete kit volvo part......may have located one but if too dear could make one at work as have a plasma cutter so makes a new metal ring no problem,just depends if the rubber is now worn.

These new type top mounts are not very durable , a good test to check for early failure is to gently press the front of the car down and up and see if you can see any relative movment between the damper rod and body . Often the body will move a bit before the damper rod even starts to move ...
