If your lights look like this:
https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/594...enon-30764402/ They are genuine Volvo Reflector Xenon and need "R" spec bulb. If they look like this: https://www.xdalys.lt/en/28013726 i.e. black plastic inside then they are halogen lamps with a HID kit fitted - not good really. If they look like this (which they shouldn't) : http://erievovo.com/shop/index.php?r...roduct_id=1366 These are the projector based Bi-Xenon ABL (bendy) lamps that require a "S" spec bulb. Also - I *THINK* that the Reflector based Xenon's take a D2R bulb (not D1R), whereas the Projector Bi-Xenon/Active need a D1S. You cannot mix D1 and D2 as the difference is the ignitor system - getting it wrong will either mean it doesn't work at all or you may damage your ballast. A good parts website might help confirm - please don't take my word for it & check before splashing the cash!

The executive has always had HIDs. The early ones are reflector ones before they changed to the projector ones around 2006/7,strangely not when they did the engine or bumper changes. The are also bi-xenon ones and you should be able to see then lift with the main beam.
If you have a dark patch then it will almost certainly be the lamp. Have you removed them to check the make? Mine had some cheap ones in when I got it and they had terrible dark patches. Proper ones give a good even light. As said above proper Volvo xenon lights are all silver and the halogen ones have black surrounds. Also the reflector xenons have the bottom part of the lamp as a flat bit rather than being all round. It’s hard to describe it very noticeable when viewed. |

Ahh just noticed that part about D1R & D2R!
I’ll definitely remove them & put pics up now before ordering, they where useless this morning in the dark on the way to work. |

Interesting find that. Yours will be D2R ones as I have the same. The XC90 has the easiest headlights to change lamps on as the whole head light comes out. In regard the high voltage used wait at least 10 minutes after the head lights were last on to make sure any voltage has dissipated. It is possible to do it straight away but you run the risk of some still being present.

20 kV is the maximum strike voltage - i.e. the voltage it kicks into the lamp to initiate the arc on startup. The running voltage is circa 80v-90v once the lamp is warmed up.

Ok, just tried to install these, the saga continues!
My drivers side has a D1S & my off side has a D2R!! So which one is correct? If it’s meant to be D2R then I need the back part of the bulb as I only have the D2R bulbs Or Do I buy 2 D1S bulbs & the D2R ones are wrong? I’m confused. |
