I was going to access the CEM, but cannot gain access... please can anyone tell me how to remove the glovebox? I've removed the obvious six torx-headed screws but it won't move.

Removed and left off the main battery positive terminal for several hours. Will take it for another drive later to see if the problems return.

there are some screws behind the rubber mat in the glove box and a few under the lower edge

Maybe of no relevance to your problem but my old Audi A4 had very similar issues. Crazy electrics. Lights going off window becoming inoperable then suddenly working again and then the same thing reoccurring.

We noticed it was always after heavy rain. I was unable to communicate with the ECU with my diagnostic so went straight to the ECU to find it swimming in water. Replaced a corroded power connector and sorted the water problem which was a known issue and never had any electronical issues again.

Is there not a know water ingress issue with the windscreen, or is that on the XC60, or possibly on earlier models ? And with the ECU being behind the glovebox, directly under the windscreen, is water a likely cause ?

I've assumed that was just earlier pre-facelift models? Either way the carpets on my passenger side are absolutely dry. I still plan to access the area behind the glovebox and then I may learn more?

In any case, disconnecting the battery for a few hours yesterday appears to put the problem right. I left the engine idling for over an hour yesterday with no glitches coming up, then went out in the evening for a long drive... All appears to be OK. I've used the car today and left it idling in a secure car park for a couple of hours; all was still OK about 10 minutes ago.

I'm not convinced it is fixed though. I certainly wouldn't be too surprised if the problem did reappear, in which case I'll book it in to a local dealer for attention. However if I can use the car I will not rush to Volvo but it's going in for a service next month and I'll certainly mention this problem in advance so they can stick it on diagnostics.

Will update this thread.

There will be a dc to dc transformer or several in the car can bus runs at 2.5V so a break down in the supply can cause weird comms errors between modules.

May need diagnostics package to diagnose. Have you had it plugged into VIDA?

I don't have VIDA, but I'll be asking Volvo to do this when they have it in for servicing next month. Unless the problem returns before that.

Surely these 'power conditioning' elements would be part of the CEM module? However I wouldn't be surprised if this was a power or comms glitch, possibly heat-related, possibly software?

In total, my car was running yesterday for over 6 hours without any sign of problems. Around half of that was stationary and idling, nevertheless the electronics were powered up and fully operational for the whole time.

The initial problem returned, in full force... infotainment system unresponsive, all dash warning lights on, central locking/windows/mirrors inoperative, heater doing its own thing, various doom-laden messages appearing on the dash, etc.

However - unlike last month - leaving the battery disconnected overnight has not provided any relief. I will be calling Volvo later today...
