Default LED sides.

Hey guys,

Anyone changed the side lights to led? Am concerned it will throw up the blown bulb warning. Those wee strips would look good led! She's an '08 S40.

LEDS are fine, no warning lights at all..

I'm considering wiring up some DRLs via the orange "volvo" lights as I blacked my orange reflectors out and removed the bulbs.

That sounds like a good idea and I have thought doing the same on mine.

Let me know which bulbs you go for and what bulb type they are

Fenton - how do people know you are indicating (other than mirror indicators) ?

Not in the older headlights which Fenton has, there was only one single drl sidelight/parking light bulb which was on the side next to the front grill unless he has 'converted' like us. or am I confused? (pic of older unit and new)

Do you know what sidelight bulb(s) the new headlight takes?

I'm refering to the orange "parking" lights at the outer edge of the headlamps.

Those take exactly the same bulbs as the inner 'side lights' and dont throw up warning messages. They obviously come on at the same time as the sidelights (position 2 on switch) or if you press the yellow button on the remote fob

So I'm merely suggesting tapping into the orange parking light wires as a source for DRLS. Because I've blanked out my orange parking lights, i now only have the central sidelights left.

I never realised there was an orange sidelight as well as the inner sidelight!

I thought the orange outer light was purely the indicator. Is there a sep bulb for the indicator then?

yes indicator is a sep bulb.

For the record ive recently installed a set of 5w5 equivalent sidelights not the orange one though!

I'll dig out the post as cant remember whatthey were but were recommended by a fellow member on this forum. No issues with bulb warnings and look miles better with the HID's ive fitted.

And only £4 for the pair!!!!

Jonnie

The order of the lights on the newer head lamps is as follows from the outside edge.

1 Orange lamp is the side marker light Legal requirement in some markets
2 Front indicator lamps
3 Dipped head lamp Xenon & Halogen
4 Side light / parking light (LED with Xenon)
5 Main Beam

Hope this helps.

I dont see a problem in tapping into that, Ive tapped into the DRL strip built into the new headlights and out a glass fuse in line just in case.

My question is, does anyone know what bulb the built in strip takes on the newer headlight?
