Just had a visit from the Police !!
As the title says !
Sitting at my desk at work, Police officer turns up and asks if the 2005 S60 outside is mine. Me: Yes I reply. Officer: Oh, only your car has just called us to tell us its exact location! Me: Eh? Officer: Its not been logged as stolen or been involved in a RTA it has just called us and told us where it is. I go on to explain to the officer that I have owned the car for 4 1/2 years, I am about the 5th owner and that I do know that the vehicle specs say that it is in the Volvo Special Vehicles class and designated Police from new. So when new it was a Police car. I know this. It was not a patrol car as it has no extra wiring for lights, siren, radio's or uprated alternator etc. Must have been a chief officer's company car or something. Anyway, all good. I am not in Cuff's !! Officer was very good and satisfied with my explanation and saw the funny side of it. First time this has ever happened. It must have some factory fit 'special' tracker on it linked to the sat-nav gps. What activated it I dont know. The alarm has not been triggered. But it pinpointed my location to the remote Business Park where I work. Think I will contact Volvo and see if they can suggest anything or disable it in case it happens again. And who says work days are boring! |

Been in contact with the Volvo dealer.
They tell me that they can see that 'something' has been logged by their system but no details. Very helpful. The car has the comms and navigation fitted but they say that Volvo-On-Call is subscription based and as such should not be functioning as I have not got a subscription and any that was lapsed many years ago. Also the car should only call out if the airbags have been deployed and V.O.C is subscribed to. Apparently, if such an even happens the car calls Volvo. If Volvo cannot then call either the car / owner and get a answer then the emergency services get a call with the vehicles exact location. No idea at this point what the issue was. I asked them if it was Volvo-On-Call or an independent tracker installed and they obviously could not tell. So I said I would remind them to look into it briefly the next service I go to and see if anything shows up. I did ask that if it was a factory 'special vehicles' fit option that was fitted if that could be disabled in VIDA. We will wait and see. |

Yes 'Dirty Rooster' tinfoil might be a good idea, its probably the lizards doing it !
Anyway, me being paranoid I turned the in-car phone off. Thought 'whilst it is off' try pressing the 'on-call' button as nothing should happen. Well the DIM lit up with ' Hold for 2 Sec to connect' So turning the phone off on its key panel does not actually isolate the system. I have now pulled the SIM card. I rarely use the on board phone, but it was convenient at times. Will keep an eye on things and hope I don't get another visit. If it happens again I will pull the phone fuse. (as long as nothing else important is attached to it! ). |
