C70 hand/parking brake
New on here so please be kind to me. Happy to tackle most jobs but need help before I tackle this one. 03 plated C70 failed MOT as the handbrake isn't working. I know how to adjust the lever travel but with that done there is still no parking brake. Reading here I get the idea that it could be I need new cables. Does anyone have any experience of this problem and point me in the right direction to start investigating. I live many miles from any Volvo dealers and if honest the cost scare me of finding one.

Must admit I'm making the assumption here that the system would be the same as on the P1 V70,if so then begin adjustment at the back brakes.Remove rear wheels and with handbrake off turn disc until adjustment hole is lined up with the adjuster, using a screwdriver through said hole turn adjuster until brake locks on.Now back off the adjuster by a few clicks-4/5 should do-until disc is free to turn without binding, then apply handbrake and see if the brakes lock on if not then it's into inside the car and access adjustment bolt on the rear of the handbrake lever[open centre armrest and prise out rectangular cover plate from base of console] HTH.

As dippydog suggests, but I would slacken off the adjustment bolt on the rear of the handbrake lever before starting on the rear wheel adjustments, then proceed as he suggests.
HTH Steve PS but if pulling up the handbrake lever doesn't set the brake (possibly just on one side), then you will need one or more new handbrake cables.
