Default Amazon 122s in Edinburgh

1966 Volvo Amazon 122s with overdrive in grey. Car is located in Edinburgh.

Solid car with very good interior and strong, reliable engine and transmission. Underneath is sound and solid with no welding obvious and sailed through the MOT a year ago.

The bodywork topside is not quite so good and would require some attention to tidy up the car. The gearbox needs a new rear driveshaft oil seal to stop a leak, the car needs two front tyres and the tracking adjusting. With the work done she could continue to be a daily driver (as she has been whilst I’ve owned her) or with a bit of TLC to the body she could be a very tidy car.

Car is fully driveable but the MOT has unfortunately just expired and I am moving out of my house on Oct 16th so have no time to do anything about that I’m afraid. My intention was to fix her up in the garage of my new house but the sale has fallen through leaving me nowhere to work on the car (or live for that matter!).

Looking to get a touch over £1000, but no sensible offer refused.

Many thanks,

Hi Caron,

I've dug out the last MOT. There were a few things:

1) Offside front (and both front inner) brake pipe slightly corroded.

2) Nearside (and both rear wheel bearing) has slight play.

3) Offside parking brake only just met required efficiency

4) Offside outer sill showing corrosion

5) Rear axle tie bar and front wishbone bushes perished

6) Offside front ball-joint boot perished.

Of these; post test I applied some waxoyl to the brake pipes and the outer sill, replaced the front brake flexible hoses and adjusted the parking brake.

The tester told me that he was required to tell me about the perished bushes but there was no detectable play in the suspension and he wouldn't fail it until there was. However these bushes will probably need to be replaced over time.

I haven't done anything about the ball joint boot. Likewise the wheel bearing but the play is still slight in my opinion. The tester may have other ideas!

Hope that helps,

Cheers,
Andy.

Thanks for your honesty Andy!

It's given us something to think about as we're in need of another car, another Amazon is our first choice.

No worries - I've tried to describe the car as honestly as I can. I don't want anyone traveling any distance to see her on false information.

She is not perfect but well worth the work required in my opinion. As you can see I have been putting off a couple of jobs because I was expecting to move the car into a nice warm garage but I don't know how long it will be until we find a suitable house so it's best that she goes to someone who can look after her.

I should probably also mention that she has been serviced every 5000 miles whilst I've owned her and that she wasn't originally an overdrive car which means that she is a very civilised cruiser in overdrive top because she has the higher ration final drive. I returned over 30mpg on trips.

Like I said, given my deadline of the 16th, I'm open to reasonable offers.

Andy.
