B16 thermostat
My replacement arrived today complete with the attached rubber ring. I don't recall ever having seen a ring there before,have I missed something or is this a generic 'stat that is used on other marques?

The B16 ones at Brookhouse don't show a rubber ring but say to use the paper gasket that is applicable to B16. I have some used ones that came with those PV parts mentioned and they all have the rubber that goes around the edge like a grommet. They are 80º or 83º.Can't see if your rubber has a groove to allow it to do that. The ones I have are all non plunger B18 types which is why I think they are B16. I might be wrong but I don't think that the B16 uses the bypass plunger. I could look that up.

I seem to remember the thin rubber with the split into which fits the 'stat but that might have been on the B20. pretty sure that the supplied ring is for some other engine, it's just to thick to fit into the groove. Paper gasket only as previously.

Arcturus;
Indeed the "edge gasket" is used on B18/20...I don't know if this is the case for B16, but studying the housing a bit to see how the sealing should work give the answer. Cheers |
