Outside Temperature Sensor
While changing the A/C dryer recently on the T5 I had to remove a shield under the front of the engine and found that the car appeared to have two outside temperature sensors (one each side behind the small lower grills).
According to the book of Haynes there should be only one, behind the LH grill. If this is correct does anyone know what the RH one is for? TIA

There is only one. You've found the teo wiring harnesses for the fog lights. Look further inboard and a bit higher (jist above the lower grill) for the temp sensor.

Sensors
No, not wiring harness but sensors.
LH one mounted in a bracket and attached to a grey electrical connector. RH is hanging loose attached by a green connector. Hopefully the photographs will attach and explain.

Again, its the harness for the foglights. The part you're mistaking for a sensor is just a blank used to prevent water ingress into the plug/harness. The other end is shaped so to allow it to fit into a retaining clip and stop it flapping around (as you've seen in the pic).

Foglight Connector
OK, so any idea why Volvo would make a spare connector for the foglights?
Would it be for driving lights or are you saying my lights are driving lights and I can add foglights somewhere? I'm confused (it comes with age so my family like to keep reminding me LOL).

Just been out to have another look. This connector is hanging down loose and I cannot see where it should clip in. It is just flopping around.
Should there be a similar bracket on the grill same as the temp.sensor the other side or is it located somewhere else? Checked Haynes but it doesn't mention it. Thanks.

Connector?
Cookeh,
Probably should have said from the off but anyway, yes, I do have working fog lights. That was why I couldn't understand what you were trying to explain. Just to make sure, went out and checked that they were actually connected and working! Thought about unplugging the connector and using a meter to check what was happening but it is difficult to reach without removing the under tray and have several other things that need attention first. Thanks for any input you can give.

The sensor on the drivers side ist for the engine management system and tells it the outside temperature. It was introduced with the M4.4.
The sensor on the passenger side is for the instrument cluster in which the outside temperature is displayed. Regards Cristian |

Temp Sensor

Just need to find some sort of bracket to mount it, rather than have it dangling loose. That is after I sort the squeaking rear brakes - the pads previously rattled and so replaced the pins and springs and solved that problem but I think the car is complaining at being ignored as I generally use the Golf most days! The V70 is my high days and holidays car so stands out in the street most of the time.
