Default Am I using the correct wheels ?

I've got a '98 V70 TDi and it came with 15" wheels which I had fitted with winter tyres last year, 195/60-15. I also have a set of Mark II V70 16" wheels with 205/55-16 tyres on which Ive just fitted to the car - I bought these about a year ago but have only just fitted. This is to simply save having to swap tyres twice a year, not because I particularly wanted the bigger alloys.

The newer wheels look fine, went on perfectly well and I've checked from lock to lock that nothing is touching but the outer tyre edge on the front wheels do appear that they might touch on the wheel arch liner at the top if the front of the car were to bounce hard. Is this my imagination or is this likely ? I know the top of the wheel is pulled in by the suspension but I don't want any surprises.

If this is a problem, which wheels can I fit ?

Cheers, Steve

steve sounds like your just fitting bigger wheels.the 850 are 16 and i have fitted 17" on mine but the j size is 7.5 so a lot wider check on you steel rims there should be a stamp on the wheel and also on your alloys post up the numbers and go from there.....what are the alloys off.......volvo or aftermarket.....

Thanks, the wheels are wider - not sure what J number they are but the spare wheel, a steel wheel, is 6J.

I was wondering if the offset of the mark II V70 wheels is different form the mark I ?

They are too big, when the wheel turns and suspension compresses the front just touches the wheel arch liner and wing.

So, need some mark I V70 wheels.

I have some mark I V70 wheels for sale here if you would be interested?

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=120521

They would fit your car perfectly as they were intended for that model (and the S70 of course).

Two tyres are very good but two need replacing. I could send these to you via courier?

Thanks, I might do that if I can't get any closer to me. I'm in Hertfordshire, any idea of carriage cost ?

I've already got a ser of 15's with Nokian WRG2's on, brilliant in the winter.

£30 should be fine, any more and i'll cover the cost.

I had a set of winter tyres on my 940 and they were excellent, as you say - makes such a big difference. I was zooming around while loads of other 'more capable' cars were stranded!

Further to the above message I have a set of 16" wheels from an 850 T5, these again will fit your V70 perfectly without rubbing
