Default Fuel Injection

Morning All
I am new to P1800E ownership having just bought a fuel injected 1971 beauty.
All sorted save for one small issue. It starts well but will not hold idle until warm - then all is fine. Just looking for a point me in the right direction … is there a warm up regulator or easy adjustment?

Hi, welcome to 1800 ownership.

The most likely cause of your problem is a seized auxiliary air valve on the side of the head adjacent to the thermostat housing, it has two hoses going to the inlet manifold.

It's basically an automatic choke mechanism which closes as the water temperature rises but in the open position allows more air through the induction system. In a seized position it will adversely affect your tickover, either too high or not enough depending which position it seized in!

Do a search for 'auxiliary air valve' or 'AAV' or 'auxiliary air slide' on this forum and you will find lots of discussions. I've developed a manual alternative for my 1800ES which works perfectly, a description and guide can be found at #24 in this thread: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...ntake+plumbing

Paul.

Default Aux Air Valve

If you cannot find an original wax controlled Aux Air Valve You could use one from a volvo 240 with K-Jetronic ( GLT ) it would need to be fitted in the same place to soak up heat from the head and would need a 12 volt supply from the fuel pump feed wire for the internal heating element .
