TAD Auto Sales Ltd

As some of you will know I have a 244 that's got various modifications done including a turbo installation, it's a genuine Volvo accessory that was available in the '80's

My question is what ever happened to the supplier, "TAD Auto Sales Ltd", their address was 284 Nether street, Finchley Central, London N3 1RJ.

In their day they were the "Uk's largest supplier of genuine volvo special equipment", and judgeing by their price list offered a comprehensive range for all models available at the time including, 140, 240,300 series. and had expertise with PV 544, P1800, 120, 144, 240/260 and 740/760

The directors were: R.Steiner and A. Sayers

Hope someone can shed a little light on what ever happened to this company with so much experience??

Had a Google of the area and see Halfords occupy the building, but what happened to the company etc??

TAD were the agent for the Volvo R sport equipment for the UK. I went there in the 80s to buy a K camshaft for my 122S

That would be £80.00 plus VAT, what were they like at TAD?

According to Companies house they were apponted a liquidator in Nov 95, and listed as liquidated in feb 97.

wonder what happened to those involved with the company, perhaps a misfortunate end for the company but does any one know of the guys?

Hi Andrew,

long time no speak...

I can't offer too much on this..but I bought an early 240 GLT Estate off the original owner and it had the turbo kit fitted.

He (David) owned a small Engineering company around the corner from TAD..and got to know them well, and started buying Volvo's from them.

When they folded he bought a heap of stuff off them..such as a spare R sport Turbo kit..not complete..but new in boxes (still is) which he sold to me with the car...he filled the back of the estate!

I also have several different brochure packs from TAD..and also two lots of manuals/fitting manuals for the kits.

I kept the new kit..and also various parts of the one I removed from the 240 GLT Estate when I scrapped it a couple of years back.

I picked up a greenbook for early Turbo cars at a show. It's for the B21E 1981 onwards.
I don't know if it many be of interest (there are probably loads of these about) but I could possibly scan it if anyone wanted the information.

Green Book, is this the official Volvo manual?

Once the turbo kit is fitted it was designated b21at, but any information is always useful

Without wishing to take this on a tangent, 244T and amaz'in, do you have any info as to what 300 series stuff TAD offered? I'd be very interested.

The brochures sound (in an epically anoraky way

) very interesting! Would there be any chance to scan them?
