Default Block Mod

Getting some work done on my T5 "custom exhaust, air filter, remap" but someone has advised me that I will need to get a "block mod" done costing approx £500.

Does anyone have any experience on this and is it really necessary?

It's "shimming" or "decking" the block. It really only needs to be done on the 2.4 or 2.5 engines when looking for serious horsepower. Reading the mods that you're doing don't worry in the least.

Salut!

if your not planning on anything else then no you dont need it done (Thats what im running with at the moment) but if your after more after that stage then yeh , I would get Intercooler first then get your block done. if you want just time it when you need to do a cambelt change

What version of the T5 have you got? The later 2.5 can be prone to split liners (even in standard tune) and block mod recommended. Plenty of advice on Focus ST forums - take a look. That said, I'm running Stage 1 with some other mods and haven't had it done. Been fine, but I'm always very careful to not drive hard until everything fully warmed up. There's also some forums which suggest waterless coolant may help.

The 2.4 and 2.3 are tougher, unless you are chasing serious horsepower.

Dependant on mileage, you may wish to factor in a new clutch with remap.

I had mine done and the Cam belt kit & PCV kit , When you think you get cam shaft seals changed as part of the job it well worth it for peace of mind if you are keeping it long term.

so im looking at the block mod now before I take any more modding steps as it seems like its a service and cambelt change, which is rubbish as I had my cambelt changed 4 months ago now.

But been quoted around £595.00 from Dreamscience and this is the list below for anyone interested:

Dreamscience Block Mod ST225 and RS MK2.
- £545.00 With High Quality pattern part.
- £595.00 with OEM Water pump.
Parts included in the kit are as follows:
- DS Spec Laser cut Shims x 4.
- Genuine Ford RS Cam belt kit with tensioners and idler wheel x 1.
- Genuine Ford Auxiliary belts x 2.
- Genuine Ford Head gasket x 1.
- Genuine Cam seals x 2.
- Water Pump x 1
- Genuine Spark Plug Seals x 5.
- Genuine VCT Solenoid Seals x 2.
- Genuine Turbo Manifold Gasket x 1.
- Genuine Sump Bung Washer x 1.
- New Cylinder Head Bolts x 12.
- Castrol Edge 0w40 Engine Oil
- Genuine Ford Oil Filter x 1
- Ford Super+ Coolant change.
- Labour.
- Time for completion 6.5 hours.

I also asked if anything is worth doing while its having the block done and they advised actuator and/or re-circ valve as its easier to access the turbo.

Anyway im looking to get this done next month or in January as am looking towards the RS turbo upgrade I recon.
