Default reversing camera installtion effect on radio

I had a reversing camera fitted by the dealer last year, so not original equipment but it is Volvo kit. I already had the parking sensors fitted as original equipment.

I have just noticed that if the radio is on and I select reverse, the radio starts to 'break up' as if the selection of reverse is trying to override the radio volume.

I don't know if this is caused by the reversing camera installation or the reversing senors operation, but it doesn't seem correct. If anything, I would have thought that the radio would be muted when reverse is selected.

So, what is supposed to happen with the radio, if anything, when reverse is selected?

Don't know about the camera but the radio mutes down when the parking sensors beep. Would think that your camera should do the same? Do you have the parking sensors?

The volume stays the same I think when my camera is on. Only goes quieter when the sensors beep.

Do you have the choice to use either the sensors or the camera? I would have thought that the parking sensors would 'always be on' unless manually switched off.....

The sensors are not selectable and therefore always on. They work in conjunction with the reversing camera, in that the camera displays ‘coloured blocks’ on the display to show proximity as the sensors beep. These coloured blocks reflect where the sensors detect an object and change colour as the distance at the back of the car reduces, i.e. go red when about 30cm from object and sensors are beeping furiously.

From what has been said here it looks like it’s probably the sensors that are causing the problem with the radio.

You can disable the parking sensors, there should be a button on the center console. Normally at the bottom right hand corner. Letter P with a small triangle near it.

I have just learnt something new then.

I will try the button tonight to see if it makes any difference to the radio 'break up'. Hopefully I will be able to isolate the problem before I get it looked at.

Apologises for not answering sooner but I was away this weekend.

HDAV,

I paid about £800 for the reverse camera installation, but that was the expesive option as the installation is dependant on whether the option code 820 ("Rear parking camera, preparation") is fitted. It wasn't on mine. If it is it's about £300 cheaper.

The £1000 you have been quoted sounds a bit high.

With respect to turning the sensors off ......

I tried that and with the sensors disabled the sensor indications and beeper do not work, and the radio still breaks up when in reverse.
