Default car for sale MAYBE

Thinking of selling my 55 plate D5 V70SE 185hp but wanted to know what you all think what it’s worth

Had it two years and in that time it’s had

Timing belt and Water pump kit
Front shockers
Front springs
Front discs and pads
Front wheel bearings
Front top mount bearings
New battery
ALL new ball joints stab links track rods etc etc
Rear discs and pads
Four tyres
Both new headlights
Handbrake shoes
Rear Backplates
Heater matrix
Thermostat housing

Full stamped service history book
Now on 202,500 miles
Just had steel seal in cooling system which has now settled down as before and running fine
It’s a cat N after a dented front bumper but when taken off it popped back into place
Black electric leather no rips or tears
MOT Dec 24

What’s it worth?

Paid a grand for my 04 163 d5 SE lux 3 months ago 200k miles, full hist including recent brakes, service and cambelt, total bill was £800. Regardless of the work you have done, the miles and the cat N will limit your market, I'd guess it's around £1500

You must tell me what a cat N is.
Seems to me all the work you put into it makes it worth more than any 1,500.
But your used vehicle prices over there are unbelievably low by No. American measure.

You're not flipping it as you've owned it so long.
Are you replacing it with another vehicle or just dumping it?

cat N is the lowest class of insurance write off when the original owner has been paid out and the insurance recoup some money by selling the salvage cat N not recorded on any database. cat S structural damage and so on .

In US terms, the car doesn't have a "Clean Title", Its been written down as a total loss by an insurance company and the owner was paid out, but the car has subsequently been repaired and put back on the road.

Cat N means that a repair was required which was economically not viable, it doesn't take much on an old car if the value is low, unfortunately though it does reduce the sale value by at least 30% in trade terms, but it can put a private buyer off, why buy a repaired car when others are available at similar money

its very hard to find a car of that age that hasn't had any work they even do body repairs to new cars in dealers before they are even sold .

In the case of mine the front bumper was slightly damaged as you say for the insurance to pay to repair the car wouldn’t be viable so they wrote it off and recorded it as a cat N (non structural) they paid me out less than the market value as I kept the car (bought it back)
I took the bumper off and it sprung back into place perfectly it looked bad at first as it was the strengthener behind the bumper that got damaged and cracked and the bumper was attached to that so £12 on ebay and it 15 mins it was all back on like before

Although it sounds like you got away with that one there are other times where you do have to be a little bit careful though, what can look like marginal damage can turn out to be a major headache

Such as the 'slightly damaged rear bumper' which actually turns out to mean hatch back no longer opens and closes properly and in one case I heard about the spare wheel was solidly wedged in place (a focus or a fiesta iirc?)

Just saying sometimes there is damage done beyond the obviously visible

Not relevant here really but just thought it was worth adding as general point of conversation

Yes but if it was recorded on the MID as a total loss it does decrease the value.
