Having just got my MY 2008 XC70 back for the same problem at circa 68k I can reliably tell you that the whole unit was changed on an exchange part price. My dealer said that whilst they have replaced said item on vehicles before it is not a common daily job, so the remark in the previous post stands, by definition a forum will be full of 'this has happened, how do I fix it' questions. Not many posts will say ' I've done xxK miles and nothing has happened' s o considering each post and the number of persons declaring same fault I guess that leaves a lot of happy Volvo owners with crossed rabbits feet saying please not me please😄😄
Even with its faults I would not change my Volvo for another mark as they all have their faults.. On current price expect to pay around £700 at dealers for new unit, belt and regas with labour.

Or, maybe it's simple "confirmation bias" where a few people highlight a few problems but it's on the internet, so it must mean it's "common".
Very true . If it goes wrong or you get bad service tell a thousand people. If it runs perfectly or you get excellent service tell a few and only when asked .
