Default Windscreen cracked

Last week my windscreen cracked, nothing hit it, it was a hot day and I heard the glass crack very quietly and ran from the top in front of steering wheel to half way down then it spread sideways to middle of the screen, I had it replaced today at Autoglass in Darlington, no drama, screen replaced and pilot assist calibrated, I never messed about insisting on Volvo glass, it looks the same and probably made in the same factory, and they have fitted it perfectly, nice friendly people and great service.
The fitter said it was probably caused by something hitting the screen a while ago but cracked due to heat on the day.
£75 worth of fun vouchers gone so wife will have to drink Morisons home brand wine for a while instead of her usual tipple.

Yup, these things happen.

And you'll have to shop around for new insurance as your premium will probably go up now.

I've never had any problems in my windscreen not having the manufacturer stamp on them when being replaced.

A few years ago, I had a stone chip hit a glass trim piece above the windscreen of a Mercedes. The insurance didn't see this as being anything to do with the windows, so they refused to cover it. Ended up costing my £600 to replace it.

They do not need an excuse to put up the premium, year on year, we will see by how much when its due. But it will not be as much as the windscreen cost to replace.

When mine went just before Christmas it do so overnight. Autoglass replaced it without drama and re-calibrated everything. I did ask for a Volvo screen and they confirmed within seconds that that was OK. Mine is heated. As for insurance, it went up by about 20%
