Fuel Filter Renewal/Replacement
My brother has just bought a 2008 V50 R-Design D5 180bhp Geartronic which has done 71k miles but it is returning c.42mpg @ normal motorway/A road speeds, which seems to me as a bit low (our S60 D5 163bhp returns 45/48 mpg).
New air and fuel filters are on way but does a V50 D5 fuel filter change need a special Volvo hand pump tool, as I've read that is necessary for the V50 2.0d versions? Thanks in advance.

So no special tool needed to change the fuel filter on a V50 D5, just drain, unscrew and replace as on the S60?

The same ring tool from the S60 to unscrew the canister will fit the V50 D5 ...

I'm not talking about a tool to remove the cannister but a special Volvo pump necessary to prevent air getting into the fuel line system. FFS I know how to unscrew a cannister.

V50 Diesel. Drain fuel filter condensation.
I am doing my first service on a 2008 Diesel V50.
The schedule has an item "Drain fuel filter condensation" Please can anyone help with this: Location of fuel filter and how it drains Does ignition need to be on (to power pump) Does engine need to be running? Apologies if it has been covered before. I have done a fair bit of searching and only found threads about bleeding the fuel system. |

you will need to remove drain plug to get access for unscrewing it. system self bleeds so don't worry about air getting in etc just be prepared for the leakage
