Default 940 - brake callipers

Hello - I have a J Reg 940 that I am slowly trying to resurrect! I have replaced springs and shockers and now need new back brake callipers. The fact is that I have been stupid (again!). One of the old ones, I chucked out as it was seized and the second one, I have lost! I have been trying to buy new ones, but every site wants to know which of the brakes models I want - with numbers I haven't got. Can someone, please, tell me the answer and who might have any? Does anyone here have good second hand callipers, please, that they might like to sell? I am changing its engine - has any one got a new clutch with which they might like to part?!

Many thanks,
Buryan aka Kenneth.

I can't tell you what rear calipers you had but you can!

http://www.myvolvolibrary.info/Tech_...DataPocket.pdf

Look on Pg6 of that pdf (by document viewer Pg number, not the document itself) and using your VIN number etc as described, you will find what brakes are fitted to your car.

I'd suspect they will be the ones that use the small, square-ish pads but the name eludes me just now but fairly sure it's Ate.

All the rear calipers are ATE, what does change is the piston size. I would go for the middle size piston.

Thank you Laird Scooby very much for the Data Pocket - which is jolly difficult to interpret when it comes to chassis code - whatever that is? Anyway Classicswede seems to have answered the problem and I am waiting to hear from Classicswede.co.uk!! I wonder if there is a connection - -?!

You'll find the chassis code/VIN number under the bonnet. Same things.

Dai (classicswede) runs ClassicsSwede.co.uk so yes, there is a connection.

Default 940 back callipers

I have discovered Jaimie at PFS has:

Callipers £90. <<<The calipers are normally exchange so they carry a £36 deposit each.
There is no barrier to you buying them but you would not be able to get the deposit back making the price £126 each.>>>

I presume that is £126 + VAT, which would be £302, the pair.

Tried to get through to Classicswede a few times and then got a message saying something was wrong with the web? His are £306. I wondered whether he offers a door to door service for the extra £4 - - ??!!! ACTUALLY - he was VERY helpful to me about them being ATE and going for the middle size - Thank you again. WORTH the extra four quid!!

UPDATE - Now, I see you are Dai - so hello, Dai! I PRESUME your price is without returning the old ones - can you confirm that, as I can't send you a msg direct? Do you do exchange and if so what is the return of the old ones worth, please? I am trying to find two old ones locally at the moment to save myself a lot of cash. Thanks.

Kenneth.

I recently replaced my front calipers and they were £70.00 each. Not genuine but they have been ok since last November

Cheers, Mark
