Default Dull Thumping from Tyre / Wheel

I swapped my wheels round yesterday Fronts to rear, Rear to Front which is something I have always done periodically to spread the wear.

My dilemma is that I can now hear a dull thumping that gets quicker the faster you go, The car Corners & Brakes fine it also does not wander to suggest that the tracking is out and the tyre ware on the original fronts was even. I have never skidded to a halt with these tyres so there are no obvious flat spots.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

start with the obvious, i did this to a lupo gti once! swapped the wheels and knocking started turned out that one or more of the bolts were loose and they warped the hole turning it egg shaped very quickly. wrecked the alloy !! i dont know how many people looked at it before we realised what had happened!

I have just been outside and the front driver’s side nuts were fractionally looser than they should have been, I took 3 nuts off and no damage to the nut / bolt seats 1st time I have ever had that happen so hopefully this is all it was.

Torque wrench in the car for tomorrow just in case.

heard this before from other volvo p1 owners mainly in the US, the p1 platform rears have a slight camber (on the c30 at least) resulting in it riding slightly more on the inner side this could be your issue.

check tyre pressures to...i run mine at 38 psi now.

could be a flat spot in the tyre that was on the back.

I have had a poke around on the internet today and a lot of Mk VI Golf GTi drivers have had this problem when switching tyres around turns out that due to the rear wheel camber they wear the inside of the rears.

This may be a common fault on many modern cars with sports suspension, the tyres I have fitted are Pirelli PZero Nero 215 45 18 this may be a weakness of these particular tyres .

Swap them back to their original positions and see if the noise goes at least you will know that it's a wheel/tyre issue and not the car
