ACF-50

Also ScottOiler FS365 is a good option if you can wash the bike regularly.

Also forgot to mention, get a good set of earplugs.
I had mine made to measure and they make a huge difference to the wind noise if your lid is a bit noisy.

You want ACF50 (paint on a thin layer with a brush) and a light cover (I use Ghost bikes £20 one) that means condensation is not trapped inside. I would also recommend a DID gold chain as that is way more resistant to corrosion than a standard chain.

+1 on the ACF50 Also, without wishing to state the obvious, don't get it on your brake discs!

That acf50 stuff looks good, planning on putting my bike into allyear rider for a full treatment.

Anyone had any experience with owning a triumph? My wife likes them and being a British company appeals to me- don't know why, hasn't bothered me in the past. I keep hearing the same "nice bikes.......but" etc and internet is full of reliability stories.

Are they reliable? Would you have one?

I had a year 2000 Speed Triple 955i about 10 years ago for about 2 years & it was no less reliable than a Japanese bike, of which I've owned quite a few. The only thing I can comment is that if you're used to Japanese bikes the Triumph engines are more mechanically noisy, or at least the Speed Triple engine is.

Fancied a bike for years so just over a year ago i did my direct access as i was 25 and passed all first time, i was very anxious and awful at the start on my cbt and couldn't even balance but after a few hours i was doing tight figures of eight with no trouble. After passing my cbt i bought a nice shiny red cbf 125, sipped fuel but wasn't exactly quick and was so light in cross winds it was verging on dangerous. Did my das on an MT07 which was a fun bike but after some driving on a roads i decided a naked bike became a lot less fun riding constantly into the wind, for getting round town or twisty fun i would have one though.

After passing my das i didn't have a lot of money and had been looking at sports tourers as i'm not a speed demon but i still like to make progress in reasonable comfort. I decided to grab an old fazer 600, it had been tarted up and has a slip on exhaust, it was amazing for a first bike but it certainly looked ancient and i had always fancied a v strom but not had the cash. The front caliper was from an r1 and in my first week i accidentally did a stoppie as some lights changed quickly. It was surprisingly good on fuel and was actually very quick to illegal speeds and nice and smooth. For a first bike i would highly recommend a fazer, probably the fuel injection model for ease, i believe a faired hornet would be as good.

Recently i got the bike i had always wanted, a v strom 650 on a 60 plate, i saved for a while to afford it but now i have it i'm happy with it bar the brakes being awful compared to the fazer but it does weigh a fair bit more. I specifically wanted it as a bike i knew i could go exploring on, sat nav off just riding down any road i like the look of then ride home again, it is extremely good on fuel (70mpg). I had read a few people mention suzuki gearboxes are smooth and it certainly has been true of this bike. I would love to own lots of bikes, old and new, just need a lucky lottery ticket now.

I have nicknamed it "Metal Mule", i think you see why and that doesn't show the rucksack on my back or the one i had on the seat, that was for a costco trip so i needed all the space i could get.

I had one of those 600 fazers in that same lovely blue, a magnificent bike.
However back in the year 2000 the doctrine was that it wasn't a proper bike, you had to ride a sports bike, nothing else.
I stupidly fell for this nonsense, being a young man at the time, and swapped my lovely fazer for a Kawasaki ZX6R, what a pile of junk that was.
I then fell out with sports bikes and decided to leave the mainstream and go my own way buying a BMW GS adventure.
I enjoyed the uniqueness and character of that bike, ridden only by those in the know. Then of course in 2004 " the long way round" was broadcast and everyone and his brother ditched their sports bikes and bought a GS, bah.

Up until the Dakar left Africa it was the highlight of my year to watch it.
I was one of the first in the country to get Sky TV (when you fitted it yourself and had to buy a licence!) with the aim of watching my beloved Dakar on Eurosport. This was late 80's.
From that point on I was a devotee of trail bikes, KMX 125 and 200, Dominator and Africa Twin (the original).
I could never understand the attraction of riding an uncomfortable race bike with hard suspension on our pot holed roads.
Big comfy trail bikes were always my choice and seeing the 'new' Africa Twin brings back good memories.
