True. In fact, I must have to stick the lights on position 2 at night to see the dials as they dont come on in position 0. Will update next month when I find out if it's doable and how much £ to do (by a specialist).

Thats exactly what I mean, although I am not sure if thats the same technical principals

Markos - it has nothing to do with "auto" lights. Mine dosnt have either.
But do you have the small plastic "dome" on the middle of your dashboard, under windshield, where alarm LED also is? Maybe its elsewhere on C30 FL but I think it may be similar. THAT is the dim sensor. WHen you cover it with hands, car should after few seconds decide "oh, its dark obviously" and turn the "night mode" in the waterfall console. In my case it goes from green-black to black-green, so kinda of negative image. The same is used for DRL operation.
Atleast thats how it works on pre FL cars.

I'll have a look LizardOfBodom, and I need to pay more attention the next time I drive the car one evening to see what happens! I don't recall a dome thing on the dash near the alarm LED
and just had a quick look on google and perhaps facelift cars' LED housing looks a little different than on facelifts... However, I did stumble across these lovely dash images!

THIS one is peeking out on this pic, see it? Not sure if its pre or post lift car
EDIT: Pre-FL, central console... but you know where to look

I jumped in the car last night, switched ignition on and my dials did indeed light up with the light switch left in position '0', so there is indeed a light sensor!
