One of the PV clubs in Holland for example has a few videos on youtoob where they say that whilst the poly bushings do change the handling the chances of cracks and splits arriving in suspension components increases. The one thing that is usually the case is that if you re-do one part of the suspension but not all you will probably wish you had done more. Many people (of many vehicle types) report that the worst part of their front end rebuild is how spongy and rubbish the rear now feels!

If rubber was the same quality as it was in the 1960's then I would say for most rubber would come out on top.
The issue is that rubber bushes are now made in such a way with decent mileage they are only likely to last a year. In same cases you can see them starting to fail after only a few months of use. As to cracking of suspension mounting points many of them are very common to see cracks in with rubber bushes so if doing a rebuild there are many points worth bracing regardless of bushes to be used. |

On P1800, the exhaust sits quite close to the old bodywork back there. If your engine and gearbox mounts have sagged, it results in the whole set up having sufficient movement to tap the bodywork.
They’re dead cheap and universal to many cars of the era. They go bad very quickly and I almost class them as service items. A doddle to change. Just one other thing to throw at you to consider!
