Default 1800S speedo jumping

Hi

I have a long standing problem with the speedo indicator jumping. The speedo is OK as I've checked this out by removing it and spinning up with a drill, it spins freely and smoothly. So I suspect either the cable is damaged or needs lubrication or the drive in the gearbox is at fault. As far as I can see the cable is properly routed and not subject to an excessive bend.

what is the procedure for cleaning and lubricating the cable?
what lubrication to use ... graphite powder, PTFE spray, white lithium grease?

if the drive is at fault what's the procedure for removal and refitting?

thanks!

Firstly a cable which is frayed can cause this , the mechanical drive on the gearbox will not cause it .. Another point the speedo mechanism itself , if it is stiff then this will load the cable too much causing the same problem .

so pull the inner cable out after disconnecting from the speedo , see what condition it is in , then of ok slide it back in with a little grease along it's length .

Put a good fitting screwdriver into the drive of the speedo , it should spin easily if you flick it around .

I use graphite grease. had a similar problem with PV. Clean, check and lub' One other thing, make sure that the cable casing is fully screwed onto the Speedo' and the inner is fully home.
