My Subaru had this issue and needed a new screen to cure it - look around other forums and you will find that this is far from unique to XC60s.

It's not covered under the warranty we have (select I think)
Bit peeved, may give Volvo uk a call, we are however covered for windscreen on our insurance £75 excess.
It sounds like it should have been a recall.
It is quite easy and normal to remove these screens WITHOUT breaking them if the correct procedures are used ! Any Breakage is down to the Dealer NOT you !

Hi Clan our dealer told us to plan for an extra £600 for a screen if they broke it or we could claim on our insurance, I felt this was a bit of a cop out to be frank and I intend to challenge them about it.

It is a cop out , They are the "experts" who else can do it better? It may be that they farm them out which is not good because the proper volvo method and materials are more likely not used and if the sub contractor breaks it they won't pay .. it is up to the dealer to claim it off the sub contractor not you . I cant see your insurance paying out to replace a glass which they broke !

There are volvo glass primers , clips and special bonding glue which has to be heated up in an oven to 80 C to comply with volvos original factory safety standards . It would be worth asking if they do this in house or farm it out and if so are the proper processes carried out .

If it is any consolation i've seen quite a few done and none broken .

The service manager suggested to my wife that she drop a brick on it and claim on the insurance.
I'm a bit disappointed with them it's completely out of character we've always had fantastic service from them.

If they are the experts why should a factory fitted screen fail and why would Volvo dealers want to put the problem with the purchaser to sort out.

Their tech probably already cracked a windshield when trying this repair, so the manager is ****ed off at the situation. Still, epic answer.

Why should it fail? some problem with the robots in the factory no doubt , The dealer didn't fit the screen , they are not responsible for it they are there to help and repair it .. and being the Manufacturer's agent they are the only ones guaranteed to do it properly , i don't think you will find many dealers breaking screens getting them out .

I would have thought that if there had been a problem with the robots or materials used at the factory Volvo would have notified owners and dealers. Maybe dealers dont want the responsibility of taking on this work.
