Default Alarm System - Service Required

I have a S60 2000 with 80K miles on the clock. Had it from new and have met and dealt with all the problems that afflict the S60 ie ETM, Cruise Control etc. An alarm has now appeared on the information centre which reads 'Alarm System - Service Required'. Can anyone assist on what work is entailed on this before I take it into the garage?

I believe this can be caused by the battery in the siren box, I'm sure there are quite a few posts on this if you search the forum

Just been advised by Authorised Dealer (during MOT) that the Siren on the alarm system needs to be replaced. If I purchased this direct can anyone advise on how to replace it?

This may help

although I think you may need Volvo to register it with their equipment. I think the siren is under the drivers side wheel arch

Is this how Volvo's get to be 20+ years old ?
You replace them bit by bit at every service until the car is 27 years old and the only original part is the gearlever.
