V70 Suspension Refresh
I have a 2005 D5 V70 its done 126K and it feels like the front end is a bit vague.
What should I be changing? I've bought a pair of wishbones to stick polybushes in - any suggestions what I should go for? Just want a nice ride and a predictable front end, im not wanting to knock my fillings out or racecar handling! |

If the engine cradle is the same as a petrol model I respectfully suggest poly mount inserts. The link is for illustration purposes only:
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/8969...ing-insert-kit A lesser improvement to be sure but not an insignificant one. At 126K there's little doubt the front struts are worn out. If you want to brighten up the car I suggest going for Bilstein B6's (their HD level) as they made a family member's Saab wagon feel great. I installed Sachs Sport Touring in my V70 (said to match OE) and while good, They didn't blow my skirt up. I've got B6's waiting to go into my current V70. Can't wait. Since you have a "jump set" of control arms and things will be apart, add new ball joints to your shopping list. Inspect the tie rod ends for wear and play. There's always the question of inspection of the strut's bearings. At >150K mine looked nearly new so relubing was all I did. Some become rusted and roll rough. You won't know until disassembly day. Order parts from a vender which'll take 'em back if not needed. Some people prefer to buy "ready struts"-complete units with new springs, bearings, dust boots-which require no spring compression. With them you have no selection of dampening degree (Boooo!). Remember to inspect the wheel bearings while you're all in pieces. Too bad they can't be relubed. Maybe they can. |

I changed the bushes on my 2007 D5 V70 at 81000mls, last two M.O.T. Advisory that theirs slight play in the front bushes. The things that I have noticed after changing them are The front end feels a lot tighter IE The steering feels a lot more positive, Gear changing is a lot smoother (auto transmission). Throttle appears to be more responsive, no twitching of the front end when applying power. Overall a good upgrade well worth the cost of the bushes. I fitted to my original wishbones Power flex PFF88-601 Front bush & PFF88-600 Rear bush. Job took me about 6 hours to remove the wishbones, remove & replace Bushes Refit & road test.

Hello
Have you got more tyre/road noise after the change to poly? Cheers Michael Last edited by ivor; Aug 13th, 2017 at 11:43. |

My V70 is on B4s and Lesjöfors springs and am very satisfied, not harsh at all.
The combination sits about 20mm higher than the worn out original set before it.

To ivor: Neither the poly cradle bushing inserts in the '07 nor the poly front control arm bushings in the '02 resulted in increased tire/road noise.

B4s arn't cheap are they?
Im going to give the polys a go. Its mainly low speed handling I don't particularly like I can't find the ones for the subframe though, any pointers? |

B4s are a bit more expensive than SACHS but much less than B6.
My B4 set cost me about 270GBP. The B4 set fot P2 V70 has a mono-tube rear and twin-tube front absorber when I think B6 has mono-tube all around? There are many factors to the poor steering response, I had refreshed most until the last to suspect were the subframe bushes. One bush had been deteriorated by oil or fuel leak and made the whole subframe alignment to play. In this case, there was no reason to put in the inserts, just had all bushes replaced and the steering response tightened up remarkably. IIRC there is an instruction on how to examine these bushes that involves lifting the car from main frame and measuring the displacement in the bushes?
