Bring back duckhams is what i say, used that in every single car ive ever had until it went out of production, and although i have heard some say it was just the packaging or whatever, i swear their oil was green.

Gosh, that takes me back to when I started driving and ran my A35 on Duckhams 20/50. Yes, it was the most gorgeous green colour , didn't look like oil at all. Probably wasn't.

All my mates were like what the hell is in there, why's it green, saw it on offer once and liked it so used it in everything after that, i was a sucker for the standard castrol gtx before that like my dad always used but i had some superstitions round that, as i did an oil and filter change on 2 of my cars using gtx and then subsequently wrote both cars off within a week of doing the service, 2 cars in a row, i knew it wasn't castrols fault but i wasn't risking it a third time in any case.

I too always used to use Duckhams Q 20/50 in my cars, before I went to cars needing a 10/40 oil instead.I seem to recall that they used to say you couldn't mix Duckhams with any other oil, don't know why and I don't know what would've happened if you did as I never tried to.

My P2 is run on 5/30 as that is what Volvo recommend for the VVT pulley to work correctly and over a long period of time. It is now on 130,000mls and no issues with rattly start up or anything else for that matter. Again regular oil changes and engine flush every second change to keep everything spotlessly clean.
cheeky Q 5/30 if its a P2 with a VVT pulley ? direct from volvo or where from
about to do filters/etc on mine and if magnatex 10/40 is "alleged" to twok the vvt,, i best sort that before its Another £400 bill to fix yet another failed vvt unit

Andy_d......there's a blast from the past. Good to see you're still around!!!

10w/40 was the grade recommended by Volvo at the time these cars were released onto the market but recently, Clan, the man with more experience gained with Volvo than anyone I currently know of, has recommended 0w/30 A5/B5 which, he says, should help with fuel economy. Should no doubt also help with the flow rate and cleaning of the VVT solenoid.

lo bafler , aye im still about,, same motor,, still costing ££ whenever it can :P

many thankies, if clan's findings lead us to 0w/30 ,, ill have to get the 10/40 magnatec out ,, oh i Love flushing engine oil,, Much "joy" and amococadiz driveway ,,

mpg , its tbh ok as it is but any slight gains ill take ,, its more the prevention of the vvt going titsup Again esp as the intention is to keep the s40 as long as possible.
