V40 Fan Serpentine/Belt
I having trouble finding a replacement belt for my V40 (51 plate). My belt snapped and took out the tensioner also. Got replacement parts next day from GSF (good price/fast service).
The belt however seems to be too long? I also been to another supplier and the new belt is also longer than the original. Are there 2 types of belts/engines for this model? Any help appreciated - a routing diagram would be helpful also! Cheers |

Some of the belts can be for cars with air conditioning and some without air con that could make a difference?

It has air con and its 1.8.
Both places looked up the vehicle reg and said it was the right belt, so I'm a bit stuck until I find out how this could be happening, neither asked for any other specific details.... |

There are 2 1.8 engines the GDI with Mitsubishi engine and the Volvo one they have different engine numbers this could be the cause of the problem. The Gdi is B4184SM or J i think depending on age the Volvo is B1484S according to the my 1998 manual.

Thanks, that sound like it could be the issue. Now I have to admit not knowing how I would know what engine I've got!!! I don't have any manuals for the car. So I have to ask how do I find out what engine I have got?:

The Mitsubishi engine is 1834cc the Volvo one 1731cc.
This is a good start point, also does the car on the back have a 1.8 badge or 1.8i.

the s in 1.8s will be the trim / options that came with the car, If the car says 1.8 on the back it will probably be the 1731cc with the Volvo engine, which will have the one poly belt as per the diagram.
