What is wrong with the "deliberate manipulation of a highly complex system" by a competent person with the permission of the owner if it is within the law?

Security is designed by humans so it'll get cracked by humans in time.
When I have what is the current S60 but in 6 years or so, the current security will be overcome routinely and cheaply.
It's like when you look back at several year old posts about failing DIMs and the (very) expensive solutions, yet they're now fixed for £60 by Spokoluzic.

Big brother is already here and has been a years, volvo have access to readouts and data that even the dealers carn't see,

The emergency service bits already here on cars spec'd with on call and has been for ages, the new generation of on call lets the owners track there own cars, so if owners can do this what can volvo see?????.

This is the way the world is going more and more whether we like it or not its here to stay

Default The PINCODE problem

Unfortunately Volvo's use of this PINCODE BANDITRY is vehicle specific and is most likely to remain secure to Volvo's pecuniary advantage in the long term without some intervention either by owners or legislators.

It contravenes one of the founding principles of the EU in that it allows Volvo to exploit its dominant market position in relation to its aftermarket.

It is quite conceivable that Volvo may be forced to give the owners of these cars whatever pincodes they want if they can be taken to court both here and in North America where it is unlikely that their position would be upheld. My view is that certain aspects of this scam could be justified during the warranty period, certainly not otherwise.

Don.
This is exactly what Volvo do when they sell the licenced software under the badge of Polestar.

Most people who have NAS at home have more than 1.7TB of data.

My biggest fear with all of this is the introduction of software licences which only last the duration of the interval between services, after that functions stop functioning forcing you back to the dealers to renew the licence.
Would you really do this on a 5+ year old car?

Do not worry about the car manufacturers although they may be on a slightly slippery surface on the data use. Just remember that the government with GCHQ and their good friends in the US with NSA tap into much more data on you and call it legal.
