Volvo S40 JC5 Gearbox
Hi all,
First post, from what I have read people here may be able to help me (I hope). I have an S40 1.8 Bi-Fuel. It is a 2004 MY and has the JC5 gearbox. The selector fork for fifth has been eaten by the gears and as a result 5th gear no longer works. Having taken the carter from the end of the gearbox this was all visible. This appears to be a result of the box losing all of its oil out of a shaft oil seal. running dry the fork got hot, melted and broke up in the box. Now i have to replace the box but have not cannot find one for sale. I therefore have several questions and hope that someone can help me out? 1.) I have the JC5 227 and I have read that they might as well be made from cheese. Is this true? If so is there another box that can be used in its place that is a straight swap and more reliable? 2.) Does anyone have a decent box available or know a place I can fetch one from ideally in the midlands or close? 3). Does anyone have guide to carrying out the swap. I am a fairly competent mechanic but a guide is always helpful and speeds up the process. Many thanks in advance for your precious time. it is greatly appreciated. Mike |

Just some additional information.
Having carried out a VIN decode for my car it says it should have been fitted with M3P M5P M5D. However my car has a JC5 Fitted. Is this anything to do with it being a BI-Fuel model. Are these boxes interchangeable? Thanks Really need help with this, its stuck on the drive and I need to get a replacement box asap. |
