Default Software update

Hi All

My V90 went in for its 3 month check up this morning. The dealer confirmed that there was new software available which would take a couple of hours to sort out. This was apparently done.

When I got the car back I was expecting all the settings to have been reset (I had saved my profile on a USB stick to deal with this). Instead my existing profile was present along with all my settings. I now doubt whether the software was updated or not.

As far as I know, there is no way of telling what software version is installed. Does anyone know any news features in the latest version? I read on Swedespeed about the improved low fuel warning - is this also in the UK version? I will wait until the fuel light comes on and see what happens.

Cheers

Dave

I've had a few software updates now, each time I've never been able to notice any difference and haven't lost profile setting. There is no way to see which version of the core system software you have installed, only map versions.

Thanks, that's interesting. I thought I had read somewhere that settings are lost, which would make sense if it is a full system update. Maybe I was mistaken.

A lot of dealers have identified the issue of settings being changed when software is updated and are now downloading the original settings to usb and reinstalling them after update is done.

There have been cases reported, but I think its generally when the dealer has been messing around a bit more to resolve a particular issue, possibly rolling back software for the battery drain issue, or upgrading specific modules.

TBH, if there as a potential of profile data getting lost, you'd think it would be standard procedure for the software update routine to backup settings, update and then restore settings... maybe it is, and in the few cases of lost settings being reported, either the engineer has missed out the restore stage or its failed....

All just guesses!

I used to lose settings but not for November update. Good spot, I hate trying to find how to switch off traffic updates.
Can people confirm no voc problems and aux heater starts up. Mine has been flawless all winter and I am very reluctant to update as those are indispensable features to me and people had problems with them from some updates.

Did you not have the December update? Some members have had the RES & navigation related issues after the December update and that update had to be rolled back in few cases.

My remote start hasn't been working for sometime now, I couldn't find time to book the car IN. I guess that is also linked to the December update.

The latest update is to switch the remote start function on in most cars as there is 2 updates and they have to be done in order

I think the profiles are backed up to "the cloud" anyway

When I swapped from my original S90 to the replacement, the dealer transferred both my wife's and my own profiles over. I thanked them and made a comment that I had backed up the profiles to USB stick to avoid having to set them all up again on the new car.

The dealer said that they did not transfer them over, but had got the profiles from Volvo, as they were associated with my Volvo ID. They download them and put them on the new car.

Maybe they misinformed me or I misunderstood, but that is what I believe they said.

volvo do not list what the general software updates do unless it is an obvious "fix" software .. With the new models you could go in every week and there would be a new version available ! They would be just sorting out minor issues which you probably would not even be aware of . You were lucky that they cared enough to check your software as it is not part of the first 3 month check ..unless you had a particular issue ..
