SWMBO liked the idea of an auto a couple of years ago - every one I looked at was rusted all to pot and generaly not the reliable run around she wanted.

It's the same trying to find any older car now. I think that with the advent of new car supermarkets, finance for all (Yes car credit etc.) and the barrage of tv adds that implied that if you didn't drive a new car you were somehow inferior, a lot of older cars just got sent to the scrappy and replaced with newer ones from finance companies. It took me ages to find my other halfs 344, but we eventually found a good one.

Theres a mint beige 343 A reg in my local scrapyard, still complete but with no wheels. No rust, 40k on the clock. Yard dont sell yars though so it will be broken up No idea what plonker phoned the scrap man up to take it away. Tragic.

They just "might" sell the shell for rallying though.. Ill find out tomorrow as im popping in.

I'm afraid I've seen that a number of times. Virtually mint examples very well looked after just get scrapped, presumably because the owner has died and the relatives are trying to get the affairs in order, fantastic cars, dealer serviced up to the moment they were taken off the road, could tell that because they had Volvo plugs and Volvo oil filters fitted.

I can normaly find them without to much trouble. Could be worth considering a 4 door if it only to rally. The weight can be evened out very easily.

Smile found a car at last.

Cheers for all the feedback people.I happened by chance to be phoned by two good friends, within a day of each other, who informed me of two 300's which were sitting on top of a mountain getting rusty.so i got on the case and i'm now the proud owner of a mint 340 DL 3dr and a completely rusted to hell and back 360 GLT 3dr. £180 for the pair of them.Someone must have been looking down on me and said"give that bloke a break and give him some thing to smile about".Well i have'nt stopped smiling for a week
