Thats interesting that the 940 is no quicker to 60 but a turbo only kicks in at about 3000rpm like the second barrel on a twin choke (which you have on your 360)
what you need is increased low end torque. better breathing with a K and N filter with a larger main jet would be a cheap mod

Hi Steve,

Dad's 940 is an light pressure turbo (LPT), so it boosts (a little bit) most of the time (above about 1500rpm?).

To be fair, the problem with the 360 really is at the top end - its fairly strong from 2500-3500, but then it needs more, and it just gets ponderous above 4000. I've also been noticing a load more torque at low(ish) rpm when using the second barrel (see first post).

A K&N is certainly on the list (although calibrating it with the jet is the problem....plus I'd want a carb-top one ideally....then I'd want a bonnet scoop for it :))...although I think it needs something more fundamental...I'm looking at both the flywheel and cam (especially the latter). Or a turbo... :)

cheers

James

If you want to get the most from the air filter, you should mod as much of the intake as you can to get the most from it... heres a interesting little article i found

I'm not sure I believe the claims there about stock filter replacement (ie: in the standard airbox). It's gotta make a differnce...even a slight one....try blowing through a K&N then a paper filter...the difference is huge.

Having said that, I think air filters are over-rated. Unless you've got injection with a lambda sensor, you'll need to have the fuelling recalibrated to match the extra air, and even then you're only talking about a slight change in BHP. I think maybe the BHP figure masks a greater tendency to give better 'throttle response'.

I get very annoyed with the 'max power' mentality that bolting on an air filter constitutes tuning...as part of a engine-wide development, then it makes a lot of sense, but it's hardly good value for money when compared to slightly more expensive/fundamental modifications. Taking this to extremes, I can get a B230ET for under £100 ($200 AUS?)...a K&N plus 'calibration' on a rolling road must be at least £75....you do the maths :)

cheers

James
