This is great, had a 480 which some kid in a Chav fiesta with his mates in the car thought it would be good to tail gate me(in my slow volvo).

Had to hit the brakes due to a kamakazi dog, and he must of hit me from behind at about 15mph.

When I got out he was Cr**ping himself, I checked the damage, the 480 had 2 little dust/rust marks from his bumper, which along with his grill/lights was laying in the road.

The look on his face when I said no damage to mine, Bye and drove off was priceless!

It's not only towbars that kill Ford/Vauxalls.

Have owned several 4 series and now a V70R, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Got to love these.

I do all of them i think (apart from abba that is though). Get a bit of Dire Straights and everyone stares at you in the middle of town.

Got to love the 30mph and then go at dual carriage ways. That always shocks the bmw sales rep trying to get past you in their 3 series.

Its also the top speed of the 740 turbos that scare some people including me. My Mate saying : Is that the needle that just went past the end of the speedo?

Best one for me was an astra trying to race me from the lights. I won that race and then had to brake sharply for the next set of traffic lights. He couldn't stop in time. His response - What the hell have you done to those brakes. Me - nothing, thats the stock brake system.

a set of traffic lights and a lot of embarrassment.

Just for the record - I leant from this. Dont race cars from traffic lights as they may not be as capable as a volvo and therefore, can cause accidents.

He tried to take me at the lights, I let him get a bit ahead, then floored it and ripped past him whilst laughing profusely. Then I let him have it again twice more as he tried to firstly get close to me and secondly when he tried to overtake me. He must have felt like such a willy. I think he also had some pals in with him, expecting him to beat this "big slow volvo".

God I cannot wait till I get an 850 R.
Careful hes not going round to tell your mom how your treating her beloved volvo!

I was rather displeased last week when my mother decided to borrow my 760 Turbo whilst i was at work. Her car was having its MOT and she wanted to go shopping.

I received a distressed phone call from her stating that she had gone shopping and that somebody in a brand new '06 plate Punto had gone into the back of her at the traffic lights. Obviously starting to feel rather nervous myself, i had to ask the damage. her reply was as follows:

"Well, the bumper is completly ruined, the lights are smashedand the number will need replacing."

There was a little flagrant language from my side and she went on...

"yeah his radiator burst aswell. The volvo is fine, only a tiny scrape in the bumper."

Luckily having a tow bar, the volvo was fine (thankgod) but the punto was mullered!!!

If she wasn't my mother she would have had a dry slap for winding me up like that - but everyone was fine so no harm done!

In hindsight it was funny how she described the damamge to his car, and thinking she was talking about the Valvo Tarboo! - bless!
Volvo - Lovin' ya work!!

Ha ha.

I think my mum knows I use her car to its "fulller potential" than she does. I'm not sure she even knows what exists after 3000rpm.

I've been watching my back for the last while for this guy in his nova incase he wants to stab me or somesuch.

i had my first experience of a car trying it on with my s40 earlier. some kiddy in mummy & daddies citroen xantia tried to hump the back end of the s40.

only a slow one about 10-15mph. in a line of traffic to take a turning he must of been day dreaming. felt a nudge and the dull crumpling noise. got out ready for war and the kid was litterally in tears. he had caught me square on the tow bar....I have a homemade (seriously over strength) tow bar. he made a mess of my £3.99 halfords towball cover.....he on the other hand had a nice reshaped nose and there was a pool of water starting to appear.

when i realised there was no damage to my motor i suddenly remembered this thread and started smirking to myself and said "its ok i wont take your details and claim for a towball cover....no damage done to me so i will leave it go.....and i think you will have more then enough hassle when you get home...but here's my card incase...good day" then i drove off. got around the corner...pulled over and had a quick look just because i'm finicky...then drove off laughing thinking "glad i got a volvo and sold that old m reg escort.

Hehehe..

Can relate to 99% of what's been posted already, have been sat here chuckling to myself for ages!

Someone mentioned putting aged Volvos in for MOT without fear of failure on major points. Oh how true. Drove mine down to the Garage this morning for a new cambelt and MOT. Topped the washer bottle up this morning, as you do, then simply dropped it off to await the sentence. It's an '88 E reg, so I expected a few niggles.

They phoned me back.. 'It's the Volvo garage, Yes She did fail, errm.... Worst thing was....... Ah yeah, The numberplate light is shot on one side.'

(The holder is in a state of disrepair and as they didnt have one in stock they had to fail her.)

On the subject of damage to our Swedish bricks,or more often lack of... has anyone else got JCB battle damage on theirs? LOL! The owner before me apparently had a run in with the rear end backhoe on a 4CX. Bit of scratching to the wing, no dents. The best bit is the JCB yellow paint still visible on the top of the wing. My towbar has had plenty of arguments in the past. I leave it 'scarred' to drop the hint to followers that maybe they dont want to come up close and personal with Velma, she doesnt take prisoners.
