What's my car worth?
I don't know how long I can bare keeping my 240 going... 355000 miles, and I spent 1600 two years ago having a number of rust issues sorted out at a proper restorer, but there are more and more places I can see rust starting.
There are also a number of niggly little things that need fixing, nothing major or expensive, but I don't feel I have the time and energy anymore, and it's getting me down. Would a car like this be worth much? The rust is still surface rust, maybe apart from the corner of the drivers door. I've always taken care of it, used Volvo parts where I could, and spent what was needed on parts. It would come with a lot of new spares, even a full set of valve springs, shims, hushers etc. Two sets of wheels, one set newly refurbished (340gbp!). It's a GLT with the dealer fitted spoiler - gauge cluster heated mirrors (retro fitted as it's '89), heated leather seats (passanger seat squeaking, drivers seat getting a bit worn). It's automatic. Rear crankshaft seal replaced not that long ago, suspension bushings are ok. Was MOT'd this month. Hmm...

Anywhere from £800-1700 depending on its actual condition.
Its a GLT and they are far more sought after than the lower spec cars. The rear spoiler is worth a fortune too. |

My 1989 240 GLT is also Auto and has 237,000miles and has needed the outrigger welded twice in my 9 years of ownership. Just a patch MOT job!
Mine has been a workhorse but as MOT tester said a few weeks ago "its all there" and now has another non advisory MOT now for the last 3 years. It is the rust that will kill it though, so getting some TLC next summer. I hope to get another 3 years or more from it. It wasn't an expensive car when I bought it 9 years ago at £350, so owes me nothing and I do feel sentimental about it. It just keep passing MOT's though and costs so little on a classic car policy it's ,why would I want to sell it. Its worth keeping for a second car. I have a 1996 940 now as the daily driver. James |
