Failed remote fob '95 960
FOB DESCRIPTION: Dark grey, 450mm x 300mm, with a light grey single button printed with 'lock/unlock'. 'Volvo' is printed immediately below this button. Below that, there is another light grey - but unidentified function - button. What is the purpose of that button? Is it part of the solution to the following?
PROBLEM: Fob suddenly and for no apparent reason - failed altogether. New batteries. No joy. Very same batteries into spare fob which works fine. How can I fix/reactivate the failed fob so we have a spare? Or should I simply (gulp) buy a new one? Should fobs be 'serviced' so they remain in good, working order? Any advice re fixing or replacing while avoiding scandalous dealer prices would be much appreciated. |

RE: Failed remote fob '95 960
Does the fob look the same as mine ?
The smaller of the grey buttons is for the panic feature of the alarm. The handbook explains how to recode the fob to the cars alarm system, if you haven't got the handbook, let me know and i'll take a pic of page for you http://www.fototime.com/{6C3D00C9-3629-4BBE-BF81-8A7B10E84650}/picture.JPG

Andy
That's the fob! I've checked my handbook (again) and it describes the operation of an entirely different fob and, more to the point, does not cover how to recode and restore its operation. So a pic of the page you are referring to would be very helpful. Many thanks for your interest and time. Gavin |

RE: Failed remote fob '95 960
No joy! But thanks, Andy. Those instructions are now in my handbook for future use. With them I have deprogrammed and reprogrammed the 'good' fob. Two or three times to check I was doing it right.
I swapped the (admittedly quite well used) batteries from the 'good' fob to the 'failed' fob and tried programming it... several times. Also, I have tried another set of used batteries in both fobs... again 'good' fob fine, no joy in the 'failed' one. I'm assuming that brand new batteries wouldn't make a difference to programme the 'failed' fob... ...BUT could they? Next step please, Andy... or anyone else? Regards, Gavin |

RE: Failed remote fob '95 960
well for the cost of around £4 for new batteries, i'd try new ones first.
But it does sound like the one remote is screwed :(

Sometimes a thorough clean of all the connectors for the batteries and the batteries themselves will affect a cure. Apart from that it is possible for a dry joint to have developed on the small printed circuit or the switch itself can fail. All the best, Peter. |
