The selctor controls an intricate system of vacuum valves, bellows and pipes. I can only assume that if you have no action at all when operating the selector, you have a failure at the vacuum source pipe from the inlet manifold to the unit. This will probably mean some diging. One of the vacuum pipes on the manifold will go to inside the car, that is your pipe for the vent selector. Start by making sure that is air tight.

Hi, Had the same problem on my 89 760 GLE.

All the vacuum lines were sound but found that the valve assembly mounted on the fan housing under the passenger side lower dash /footwell area access panel was faulty.

All the vacuum lines go to it and it has a small PCB and multiplug connector. On mine there was a poor connection between the plug and pins on the circuit board. When contact was broken the flaps would move to a default setting and air would pass to the footwell with a little going to the screen.

If you remove the lower dash access panel and look up into the gap between the heater box and radio you will see it, try wiggling the connector with the engine running and the air distribution set at face vents and you will probably find it starts to work again ! Took me ages to find it !

I took the valve off and resoldered the connections for the plug and hey presto ! Works like a treat ! Good luck !

I was just about to suggest the same as Iain as my 760 required that connector to be resoldered too.
