You guys have fantastic information. Cannot say I understand all the numbers but getting there.
Yes, picture is deceiving wiring is clear of exhaust. So bottom line is I can get by with the distributor I have right now? Not best but serviceable? Do any of you guys have distributors to sell that would work better? I have changed the timing settings and fuel settings, seems a bit hesitant on fast acceleration. Runs a bit smoother at idle though. Changing valve seals next couple of days to see it this helps smoke.

You might consider the 123 dizy which is tune-able. I have one in my 544 and one in my 144s.
Pricey but no more points or condenser problems http://www.123ignition.nl/ However you should concentrate on solving your over heat problem first

I am definitely working on both. I drove on the freeway yesterday at 65mph and it topped out at 192f, or the 2/3 line on the gauge. It was about 95f outside. Only use electric fans in stop and go or idle. Did have some concerns. I have been adjusting timing and fuel mix to try and help overheating. While driving at a constant 65mph I was feeling a infrequent shutter. It would cruise fine by would feel like a miss. Also have hesitation(bog down) on acceleration. Can't tell if it is fuel mix or timing. Thoughts?

B to A
In brief the centrifugal advance is, I believe, too much on some distributors. I've just found that most problems go away when a B20A distributor is fitted. Unfortunately I don't think many single carburettor Volvo 130s or 140s made it the USA.

Has anyone suggested an electronic ignition upgrade as an alternative yet?

I have a Petronics unit and installed it. The problem was the coil. With the armored cable you cannot hook things up. I really am trying to preserve the look of the car.

Which Pertronixs system have you fitted? Some of these electronic systems don't need vacuum connections...

Also how to convert to standard coil. Doing it this way the only difference is the extra + terminal on coil. Cut the armor and remove and solder new wire to switch. Easy!

Sorry I gave you the wrong impression. I tried to install the Petronics but because of the armored cable I put standard points back in. I am running an original distributor.
