240 Questions
Hello, i`m looking for help/advice on a couple of questions.
Got a 240SE 1993, with the orange engine warning light on the dash, can anyone tell me what could be wrong and how to fix it, the car basically runs ok. Also got a spare 240GLE 1985 with a new volvo power sterring rack on it, would this fit on my later car? Lastly, anyone know of a good cheap way of doing up some alloy wheels? Thanks in advance Barry |

RE: 240 Questions
See the article on the back page of "Technical Driver" newsletter 111, dated January 2002 for how to clean up alloy wheels.
The power steering rack should swap quite happily. The light is telling you that it is time to change the oil. After changing the oil (and filter) you should reset the light. All the best, Peter. |

RE: 240 Questions
The orange warning lamp on the dash is telling you there is a fault in the engine management system and has posted a fault code. This fault code needs to be read from the control unit to determine where to start the fault tracing procedure.

RE: 240 Questions
There are two questions current on the subject of the orange warning light, and the expert answer to both is to check the code first.
When I tried to do this a few years ago, I could not follow what Haynes said, so took the car to an agent. Can anyone give a simple explanation of how to read a code? For start, should the ignition be on or the engine running - Haynes doesn't say. Then there appear to be two different models, but it doesn't say how to distinguish them. Thanks - I don't need it at present, but it would be useful to know. |

RE: 240 Questions
All, thanks for the help/advise. I had to take the car to a volvo service centre. The guy there put a computer on the car and told me the problem was an air flow meter.
He has cleared the engine warning light and told me to come back if it re appears. cost for replacemnt meter £255.00+fitting+vat. I hope it dont come back on. Thanks again Barry |
