Default 240 auto transmission AGAIN!

Hello again,

The auto box on my 240 has been making some strange noise and partly lost drive in forward and completely in reverse.

It sounded like it was overfilled..so I checked the dipstick and it was showing overfilled...but I know for a fact that it used to read fine only 6 months ago.

I have taped the sound it makes, as just an audio file and as a video..

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Hmmm... The way you describe it, additional fluid has entered the system without your help. Hmmm...

I would definitely check the state of the ATF oil - in a hurry!

What I suspect, is that you may have a leak in the "cooling insert" (haven't got a better term for it) located at the right hand side of the radiator: The trans fluid is routed into the radiator where it is cooled and returned to the trans. This is the only place I can imagine the transmission can pick up additional fluid.

Check oil, and check coolant. If my guess is right, you'll have a mixture in both systems.

Many thanks Erling.

Unfortunately it is not this! This did happen last christmas, and I have done 10,000 miles in the car since I replaced the radiator/hoses/water pump and flushed all the fluids.

I am at a loss!!
