AIr Con Belt
I have 2007 S80 D5 Geartronic and the airconditioning has stopped working (Had it regassed last year) When it was last serviced at Volvo they did not change the Air Con belt and had to do it at a later date. Have lifted the bonnet today and found only one belt on the larger outer pulley on the alternator. The smaller inner pulley has no belt, so should it have a belt on the smaller pulley, if so is it for the air con belt.JK

Took car to Independent Volvo Garage and they confirmed that the alternator pulley only has one belt and the air con belt which is at the bottom front of the car in front of the radiator was intact. Will be getting the system regassed.

Did the garage confirm that the air-con compressor clutch was working correctly ?
It seems surprisingly difficult to find a decent diagram showing the D5 belts, so I've taken a photo that might help: Starting at the bottom of the photo, this is the air-con compressor clutch. It is driven by a stretch belt that goes up to the inner pulley of the power steering pump (this is why you first need to remove the auxilliary belt before dealing with the air-con stretch belt). As you probably know, the air-con clutch pulley is constantly spinning when the engine turns - the air-con switch on your dashboard activates the magnetic elements of the clutch causing its outer plate to engage with its inner plate, hence turning the compressor drive shaft. The outer pulley of the power steering pump is driven by the auxilliary belt. On the above photo, on the LHS you can see the large outer pulley attached to the end of crank-shaft. This is what drives the auxilliary belt. The only other item visible in this photo (top, middle) is the auxilliary belt's tensioner pulley, which at the time of taking this photo was being 'set' with a T60 torx wrench (I am a multitasker !) In the above photo, if the inner wing wasn't obscuring the top RHS, you would see the alternator. This is driven by the auxilliary belt. I've just looked at my alternator (original 10 year old item like all other bits !) and it does look like it has a double pulley. On the D5, the auxilliary belt fits on the outer 'groove' of this pulley. It looks as if a narrower belt would fit on the inner groove - perhaps this same alternator is used on other cars. Anyway, on the D5, it's just one belt. To recap, the only components that have 2 belts attached are the crankshaft and the power steering pump. Hopefully I've got this all correct - I only know all this because I've renewed all belts/tensioners myself and it all worked afterwards

Did not get that far with the indy garage and they only confirmed that only one belt is fitted to the alternator (D5 185 Current Mileage 72640) and that the air con belt was in tact (Air Con Belt Replaced by main dealer in Sept 2016 during service). Have Air Con man coming to regas the air con my wife's car on Thursday and I will get him to have a look at it.
