Default V50 2.0D vibration at 2500 rpm in 4th gear

HI

Not posted for a while but am in need of some solid advice

Got a 2008 V50 2.0D and am getting vibration when going over 40mph in 4th gear at approx 2200 to 2500 RPM and accelerating.

I've had the new tyres put on front axle & balanced.

Mechanic initially though it was drive shaft as CV boot was torn - CV boot changed & topped up oil - same but slightly better. Now he's thinking diff bearing in gearbox as the drive shaft looked ok when changing the CV boot or drive shaft.

All is ok in gears up to 4th and below 40mph (on flat or up hill) whilst accelerating and revs at RPM mentioned.

Change to 5th & 6th and ok.

Anyone any ideas or had similar??

I've googled the symptoms but I shouldn't have
