Then it was back to rubbing down.....

Scotchbrite on the unseen areas just to give it a key and a more intensive smoothing off the door shuts, inner rear quarters, pillars etc and a serious cleaning down with panel wipe and it was time for some shiny stuff

That's my mate I share my garage with suited up and hitting it with the first of the 2k pearl white - I was busy in the background paint mixing and bleeding the water trap on our compressor and generally being excited....

And all packed back up at the end of a long weekends work

With the interior sorted it was on to the engine bay,

A couple of very light repairs sorted and it was heavily sanded, zinc primed and into two pack primer....

And the into top coat...

Yes it was getting late by that stage as you can see by the torch...l

Good weekend though also stripped all the doors and finished inside of bonnet, hinges, inside of doors, door trim panels

Car put away and beer o'clock

The next weekend was more about logistics....

I got my mk2 escort out of storage and trailered it home to London to get ready to put up for sale and dragged the blue amazon back into life and trailered it up to bedfordshire to meet its new friend

Now having them side by side I should be able to push ahead with picking all the best bits out of my parts stock and assign and fit them to the cars....

That is until my landlord has a freak out about me having too many cars again
Fingers crossed he cuts me some slack

Up to date..........

This thread is now current and on schedule, I wish the cars were too !

I do have a question for those in the know

Steering boxes & steering columns

I have a difference in the connection and don't have a steering column to match the box in the white car

I have 3 steering columns and 4 steering boxes in total but still find myself needing to buy more parts - typical !

Can anyone tell me if there is anymore to it than just getting the right column/coupler or

Would it be terrible to just fit one of my matching columns/boxes from an earlier car ?

Thanks

Andy

Hi, I can't tell you anything about steering boxes, but I thought there were only two different styles - the only difference being the newer one has offset pieces on the steering column, such that if you were in a head-on, the newer one will break-off instead of pushing the steering wheel into your chest. You should be able to get that sorted.

Oh, and be sure you have a steering wheel to match the spines on whatever shaft you use - that changed as well.

The reason I am responding is actually a suggestion: Since you are going to all that work, I would highly recommend you sandblast the undercarriage and apply some kind of non-chip coating. Mitch has done this with some materials he could steer you on to (or you could contact NASA), or in my case, I used a 2-part truck bed liner. Anyway, you already have the car stripped, so.... Mitch also bought a car rotisserie (sp?), which I REALLY wish I had done.

Best of luck - with a parts car and the fabled Brookhouse it is only a matter of time until your dream is realised.

If it is a true 1964 model - then there's no trim around the tailgate window..

Well, made that remark while reading the thread.. Things changed I see.. Could you tell the exact model years these are?

Hej

Blue is 64
White is a 68

Blue car came without a rear screen trim - I had just assumed it was missing...

Every day is a school day....

Thanks

Hey James,

The underneath already has a good coating and is in very good condition, the front part will get a bit of black paint to neaten up the line where the engine bay finishes and the floor pan begins but the rest will have to stay as is for now, I've been watching Mitch's progress and it's a very good effort.....

Time is my issue

I need to get this thing painted and back together ASAP but done right....
